Acoustic Carpet Underlays - Doneo Malta

The concept of installing a stand-alone carpet over a floor to provide sufficient acoustic treatment is misleading and heard too often. Unfortunately, even the thicker carpets can only sufficiently absorb high frequencies (above 3000 Hz) and will not do much to control room reverberations and/or speech intelligibility.

Sponge rubber underlays which have a textured surface are able to trap volumes of air between an overlying carpet and the underlay surface, and in conjunction with their material constituents, provide sonic absorbtion of airborne noise over a substantially wider frequency band. In addition, carpet underlays contribute immensely to the suppression of impact noise.

Effectively, any carpeted surface designed to absorb sound should have a carpet with a base layer that is not sealed and must be installed with an appropriate underlay.
